Re: Bollocks to Brexit
I've just wasted 20 minutes.
I took out the bit about her speech on 14th January 2019 being full of nonsense about the EU (look it up - it's a Sun leader) and the bit about 5 million signatures including 16% (and counting) of her electorate...Dear Cheryl Gillan,
I am not in the habit of writing to you, but feel I now have no alternative. The UK is in crisis, and as an MP and a senior member of the 1922 committee you are in a position to help pull the country bank from the brink.
I believe very firmly that Brexit will be a disaster for this country, and there is strong evidence that it has already materially impacted the country's economy and standing in the world, even before we have left. I know your view is different.
I congratulate the 1922 committee for attempting to persuade Theresa May to stand down as PM, and I wish the committee all the best in that endeavour. Her unfitness for the job has been obvious for some time, and has been reinforced today when, rather than reach out to try and seek cross-party consensus for a way forward she has spent time with the very MPs who are forcing her down a blind alley. They speak for no-one but themselves.
You said in the House on 14th January 2019 that you wanted the UK-EU agreement to be ratified by the House. I agree that, for someone who supports Brexit, implementing the agreement would be a sensible outcome. It is now clear that the only way that can pass the House is in conjunction with another referendum, giving the people of this country another chance to decide whether they really want to leave the EU now that the facts are clearer. I therefore urge you to support the efforts of your colleagues in the Conservative party and other parties to secure that referendum.
If you are still confident that leaving the EU is still the right answer to the undoubted problems of this country I am sure that you will also be confident of being able to persuade us, the population of this country, that we should agree with that proposition now that there is a clear withdrawal agreement and a clear political declaration rather than simply a slogan.

Don't know if you've sent that, but did you mean to put "back from the brink"?

It's still probably better spelt and more coherent than most of the letters she'll get. Even in commutersville.

Thank you for your communication about Brexit.
I regret to inform you that Dame Cheryl’s husband Jack Leeming died this weekend - Saturday 23 March 2019 – after she has nursed him through a three month illness. She asks that you consult her website for any updates that will be posted from time to time

I thought "how sad", then a quick google showed he was 90 or 91, so sad but probably not a shock.
But there is this: I employ my husband, Jack Coates Leeming, as a part-time Office Manager/Researcher., so both a professional and personal loss.

Wikipedia says he was 82.
It is sad (and I have replied with condolences) even if employing your husband on the public purse isn't the wisest course of action.
During the expenses scandal she claimed for a London home, even though her constituency is commutersville. She now lives on the other side of London, in Epsom.

He was 82 at the time of the expenses scandal. He would have been 92 in a few weeks. http://www.ukwhoswho.com/view/10.1093/w ... /version/1
(and maybe he was working. I know a couple of women in their 90s who are very active. 3 if you include the Queen)

Only 3 years until her Platinum jubilee. It doesn't feel like 7 years since her Diamond bash...

"No government could give a blank cheque to commit to an outcome without knowing what it is. So I cannot commit the government to delivering the outcome of any votes held by this House, but I do commit to engaging constructively with this process."
